Whitney Cummings to Headline WICF 2020
The Women in Comedy Festival (WICF) presents Whitney Cummings on Saturday, May 9th, at The Wilbur in Boston, Massachusetts. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, December 13, 2019 at 12:00 Noon ET.
Whitney Cummings is best known for creating and starring in the NBC series “Whitney,” as well as the Emmy-nominated CBS comedy series “2 Broke Girls,” which she co-created and co-wrote with Michael Patrick King (“Sex and the City”).
The comedian and writer’s fourth stand-up special, “Can I Touch It?” debuted on Netflix this past July. The special, which was filmed at the Sidney Harmon Hall in her hometown of Washington, D.C., includes Whitney’s take on everything, from her signature incisive commentary on gender dynamics, to why we should give sex robots a chance.
In November, the multi-talented actor, producer and director launched her own podcast titled “Good For You,” and she’s slated to star and executive produce the new half-hour comedy “Good People,” which she co-created alongside Lee Daniels, for Amazon.
Sponsored by HBO, the Women in Comedy Festival brings together approximately 150 to 200 performers and artists to celebrate and showcase women in comedy. “More than ever, we need to hear from female comics, writers, and directors,” said Kelly Edwards, HBO’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development. “And the Women in Comedy Festival gives them a tremendous platform to be heard.”
Live show submissions are open to comedians of all genders in the categories of improv, sketch, musical comedy (scripted and unscripted), and stand-up. Live show applicants may also submit their podcasts as part of their applications at www.wicf.com/apply/ through January 15, 2020.
Tickets are on sale at The Wilbur Box Office, online at thewilbur.com, and by calling 617.248.9700.
