Submissions for both are now open.
The Comedy Short Contest is accepting comedic short films between one to 10 minutes in length. One contestant will win $1,000 and a one-on-one mentoring call with director Paul Feig.
The HBO Insider Comedy Short Challenge is accepting comedy shorts between one to five minutes, using this opening line of dialogue, “I’ll Take Whatever You’ve Got!” One individual will win $1,000 and a one-on-one mentoring call with HBO’s Director of Comedy Programming Ada Chiaghana.
The early deadline for both competitions is Monday, January 15 with a final deadline to upload the WICF Comedy Short film on March 1, 2018 by 11:59 PM (EST). Submissions can be uploaded to www.filmfreeway.com.
The ‘Best of Fest’ in both film categories will be chosen by an esteemed jury that will include: DMA/Donna Michelle Anderson (Director of Creative Talent Development & Inclusion for ABC), Rebecca Windsor (Director of Television Workshop for Warner Bros.), Jeniffer Kim (Vice President of Comedy Programming, TBS), Karen Horne (Senior Vice President, Programming Talent Development & Inclusion, NBC), Jandiz Cardoso (Director of Talent Development Programming, NBC), Daria Overby (Director of Creative Diversity, Starz), and Jeanne Mau (Vice President of Entertainment Diversity, CBS).
The festival will feature original comedic content created by filmmakers from all over the world. WICF: Film Competition is focused on paving the way for more unconventional female characters and story-lines to be written, directed and produced by women. WICF is looking for female-driven short comedy films that go beyond the typical tropes.
